Mezguita Oasis

Located 65 km south of Ouarzazate, after navigating the Zig Zag passage, the most prominent feature of Agdz, Jebel Kissane, comes into view. Agdz is a small town with restaurants, a pharmacy, shops, and a dates market. After crossing the south bridge, you’ll drive along a beautiful route accompanied by the Draa Valley until you reach Zagora city.

Mezguita oasis

Mezguita Oasis marks the beginning of six major stretches of palm groves in the Upper Draa Valley. The administrative district shares the same name, and the main sources of income in the area are agriculture, especially dates, and tourism.

Tamnougalt

Tamnougalte, also known as the meeting point, is the main Kasbah in Agdz. It was the former capital of the Mezguita Oasis, serving as the house of the Caid. The Glaoua family grew increasingly powerful, controlling lands from Telouet to Taourirt in Ouarzazate. They aimed for more control of the Draa Valley. Hammou Galoui, the military leader of the family, pushed Oulad Yahia against Mezguita until he led an army of 5000 men and cannons to siege Tamnougalte for 17 days. Eventually, they raised the white flag.

Finding good accommodation in Agdz is not difficult. Many guest houses and riads offer bed and breakfast, with several located on the edge of Mezguita Oasis, providing beautiful views in a Kasbah style.
